Active Lifestyle - International Women's Day

International Women’s Day. A day to globally celebrate all women for the vital role they play in society. As well as to honour the amazing women who have got us here. International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8th, with the first gathering for IWD dating back to 1911. What’s special about International Women’s Day is that it is not specific to a country, group or religion – it is honoured worldwide. This is a day to raise awareness at how much further we have to go, but also celebrate how far we have come. A day to continue to elevate and empower women on a global scale in pursuit of a global dream for equality amongst all people regardless of sex, race, or religion.

Over the past decade we have seen a huge rise of women in power which is constantly growing and inspiring other women to do the same. Many women are running their own companies, becoming involved in politics and speaking out to fellow women to share their stories in hope to motivate and show others that it is achievable. With record numbers of women running in politics, more strong women leaders are constantly emerging. Considering women only gained the right to vote less than 100 years ago, it is inspiring to see women running for president.

Women are protesting, marching, organising and building power. From an increase in numbers of women joining the Women’s March, to the brave women speaking up about sexual harassment in the #MeToo movement, it is becoming obvious that women are not going to remain silent anymore. They are going to speak up for their rights and for all of future generations of women. Not only are more women speaking up, but more men - especially those in power are being held accountable for their actions.

There's also an increase in women speaking up and making a stand for climate change. These woman are passionate about projecting the planet and future generations. From Extinction Rebellion making a stand in London on International Women's Day to Plan Australia marching for feminist Climate Justice. As mothers, sisters and daughters, women want to protect Mother Nature. Woman being life into the world, therefore resonate with it's importance. They see that protecting the land and sea is important for our future survival.

The world simply would not function without a woman’s touch. With that being said, here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.
